Sky-High Plans for Sheridan & Diversey: A Glassy New Tower — and Two Historic Sculptures — Could Transform Lake View's Lakefront Edge

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Lake View ·

Lake View neighbors, a striking new development proposal is turning heads at one of the neighborhood's most prominent intersections. A trio of developers — Antunovich Associates, Chicago Development Partners, and Continuum Capital — have pitched a residential high-rise at the northwest corner of Sheridan Road and Diversey Parkway, where the now-vacant Stone Medical Center building currently sits. The initial proposal calls for a 24-story curved glass tower featuring 303 rental units, roughly 10,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space, 150 parking spaces, and an impressive 414 bike parking spaces — a nod to Lake View's deeply bike-friendly culture.

What makes this proposal especially exciting for neighbors is the artful commitment baked right into the plans. Developers have pledged to preserve two beloved Egon Weiner "Brotherhood" sculptures currently on the property — originally installed outside the former headquarters of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen union in the early 1950s — either on-site or in partnership with the Chicago Park District. The renderings also promise a rooftop pool deck and bird-friendly glass overlooking Diversey Harbor and the lakefront.

Alderman Bennett Lawson's (44th) office is actively gathering community feedback ahead of a public meeting, and additional renderings and a traffic study are on the way. This is your chance to shape the future of one of Lake View's most iconic corners — stay tuned to Ald. Lawson's office for updates on when and how to weigh in!
