Bucktown Just Got Its First African Fusion Restaurant — And It's Already Worth the Trip
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Bucktown ·
Bucktown neighbors, there's a brand-new dining destination on Armitage Avenue — and it's unlike anything else in the neighborhood. The Origin Restaurant and Lounge held its grand opening this past Thursday, May 15, at 2010 W. Armitage Ave., bringing an African fusion concept and full bar to a stretch of the North Side that's been hungry for something bold and different.
The Origin has taken over the former El Rinconcito Sudamerica space, and the journey to opening night was anything but easy. Construction delays and city permitting hurdles kept pushing the date back nearly a full year from when owners originally hoped to debut. But patience paid off — after a soft opening that began April 30, the team finally threw open the doors for real this week. One of the restaurant's partners, Coco Shelton, has described the concept as a rotating showcase of African culinary traditions, with guest chefs cycling through to keep the menu fresh and surprising. Weekend brunch is on the way, and the spot will stay open late on Fridays and Saturdays — noon to 2 a.m. — making it a natural anchor for a night out on Armitage.
Shelton summed up the vision simply: a place that's elevated but approachable, perfect for a dinner date or a casual after-work stop. Bucktown's dining scene just got a little more global — head over to 2010 W. Armitage Ave., introduce yourself to the team, and be one of the first neighbors through the door.
