Hyde Park's Summer Is Officially Here: Garden Fair Wraps, Harper Court Music Series Blooms & House Beats Coming to Jackson Park

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Hyde Park ·

Hyde Park neighbors, your neighborhood just crossed into summer — and the calendar ahead is absolutely packed.

This past weekend marked a major community milestone: the 65th annual Hyde Park Garden Fair took over Kimbark Plaza (53rd St. & S. Kimbark Ave.) for two days of blooms, herbs, and greenery. Volunteers were especially excited this year about brand-new "monarch butterfly packets" — bundles of six pollinator-friendly plants designed to support butterflies from spring all the way through their September migration. It's the kind of thoughtful, community-rooted touch that makes this fair — Chicago's oldest community garden sale — a South Side tradition like no other.

Looking ahead, the Hyde Park Herald just dropped its 2026 summer event guide, and it's a feast for the senses. The Harper Court Summer Music Series returns to 5235 S. Harper Ct. on Thursday evenings from 6–9 p.m., hosted by Chicago educator and radio host Mario Smith and sponsored by the University of Chicago and The Silver Room (1506 E. 53rd St.). It kicks off June 4 with the 3rd Annual Hyde Park Best Steppers Contest featuring DJ Eric "ET" Taylor, with soul, jazz, and house performances lined up all summer long. And don't sleep on the Chosen Few Picnic in Jackson Park this July — a house music institution returning to the neighborhood once again.

Hyde Park, summer 2026 is yours. Which event are you most excited about? Tell your neighbors on Socialhood!
