Bronzeville's Beloved Music School Hits a High Note — 20 Years Strong and in a Brand-New Home
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Bronzeville ·
There's a lot to celebrate at Intonation Music in Bronzeville this month. The beloved nonprofit music school is marking its 20th anniversary — two decades of putting instruments in kids' hands and filling the South Side with sound — and doing it from a brand-new home. CBS Chicago stopped by the milestone moment, shining a spotlight on an organization that has quietly become one of Bronzeville's most cherished community anchors. For twenty years, Intonation has provided free and low-cost music education to Chicago youth, and this anniversary chapter, complete with a fresh new space, signals the program is only growing.
Meanwhile, another major chapter is unfolding along Bronzeville's lakefront. The sweeping infrastructure project on the former Michael Reese Hospital site — a roughly $90 million undertaking that includes an all-new roadway network, bike lanes, pedestrian lighting, and green landscaping — is on track for completion in Q4 2026. A centerpiece of the effort: a brand-new 2-acre public park set to become a landmark outdoor gathering space for South Side families.
From music education that has shaped a generation of young Bronzeville artists to a lakefront park that will reshape the neighborhood's eastern edge, the community's momentum heading into summer 2026 is undeniable. Head to intonationmusic.org to learn how you can support or get involved — and keep your eyes on the lakefront, because something beautiful is almost ready.
