Summer Is Almost Here — and West Englewood's Peace Campus and Community Center Are Ready for the Kids

With Memorial Day weekend just around the corner, West Englewood's youth programming infrastructure is gearing up for one of its biggest seasons yet — and two neighborhood anchors are at the center of it all.

The Peace Campus, the block-based community hub operated by Imagine Englewood If at 59th & Racine, is ramping up its signature summer offerings. The campus — which spans 16 properties including five houses, two basketball courts, a community garden, and a nature play lot — hosts the 'Kids on the Move' summer camp for youth ages 6 to 22, alongside the Growing Citizens Leaders program, which delivers civic engagement training and professional development workshops for teens. Over at the Mpower House on campus, young people can dive into audio engineering and video game development, building real digital skills for the 21st century economy. Growing Home, the campus's farm-training partner, also opens up free gardening and cooking classes to neighbors throughout the summer season.

Meanwhile, the West Englewood Community Center continues to be a go-to destination for hands-on youth enrichment — from its rooftop garden and greenhouse program to boxing training in partnership with the Chicago Park District at Davis Square Park, and a performing arts theater track covering sound engineering, production design, and stage management.
