Bucktown Is Getting Not One But Two New Gyms This Summer — And They're Built for Community

Bucktown's fitness scene is about to get a serious upgrade. Two new gyms are gearing up to open their doors this summer, and both are bringing something fresh to a neighborhood already well-stocked with workout options.

First up: Bucktown Assembly, taking shape inside the former Armitage Auto Repair shop at 2036 W. Armitage Ave. Trainer and coach Ashley Stephen and business partner Erik Nelson are overseeing a full buildout of the space — including refurbished interior brick walls, foundation work, and a locker room — with a planned opening in July. The gym will specialize in strength training and HYROX workouts, the high-intensity fitness races that have been exploding in popularity. But the duo's vision goes well beyond reps and sets: they want Bucktown Assembly to become a genuine gathering spot where neighbors connect before and after their workouts — hence the name. Meanwhile, trainer Malik Scott is rebranding his longtime fitness company into More Than Fit at 1852 N. Milwaukee Ave., with a grand opening set for June 12. Scott, who has spent over a decade working with youth athletes and adult clients across Chicago, takes a holistic approach to fitness — weaving in goal setting, habit building, and confidence alongside the physical training.

Two new neighborhood-rooted fitness spaces opening within weeks of each other is a real statement about Bucktown's energy heading into summer 2026. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or just looking for a new fitness community to call home, keep an eye on both Bucktown Assembly and More Than Fit — and go introduce yourself to the teams.
