West Town Gets a New Community 'Clubhouse' — and a Poignant Art Show to Match the Moment

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Town ·

West Town's reputation as a neighborhood where community actually means something just got a fresh boost — this time in the form of a brand-new gathering space tucked above Grand Avenue. The Space Together, the brainchild of business partners Daryn Schwartz and Laura Lusson, has opened its doors at 1727 W. Grand Ave. as a co-working, education, and events hub designed to help neighbors connect. Founding memberships are available for $99 a month, with $35 drop-in day passes for the more spontaneous among us — a welcoming price point for a neighborhood full of freelancers, creatives, and community builders. Think of it as West Town's new living room.

And speaking of community and creativity, West Town's art scene has another reason to celebrate this June. HY-MAY and King Art Collective are presenting Six Paintings, a new exhibition of large-scale landscape works by Joseph Reich, opening with a free public reception on Thursday, June 18, from 5–9 PM at 2401 W. Ohio Street. Reich — a School of the Art Institute of Chicago graduate who spent 12 years building his practice in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood — has since relocated to Brooklyn, making this show a heartfelt farewell to the city that shaped him. Admission is free and open to everyone.

From a new gathering space fostering everyday connections to a once-in-a-city-moment art show, West Town is serving up plenty of reasons to get out and engage this June. Mark your calendar for June 18 — and stop by The Space Together to find your new favorite work-from-neighborhood spot!
