Logan Square Kicks Off Pride Month With a Rainbow Over the Neighborhood — and a Message for All of Chicago

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Logan Square ·

Logan Square rang in Pride Month in the most joyful way possible this past Sunday, June 1 — with a Progress Pride Flag flying high over the neighborhood, a live drag performance, rainbow cupcakes, and a dance party that felt unmistakably, wonderfully local. The annual flag-raising ceremony, now in its third year, drew neighbors and LGBTQ+ Chicagoans from across the city to celebrate together right where they live.

The festivities featured a performance by drag queen Dulce Divine, and remarks from some of the city's most prominent voices in LGBTQ+ advocacy. Chicago's newly named Director of LGBTQ+ Affairs, Antonio King, spoke to the crowd about how the gathering itself proved a powerful point: queer community isn't confined to any single neighborhood. "There's pride beyond the North Side of Roosevelt," King told the crowd. Cook County Commissioner Jessica Vásquez echoed the sentiment, celebrating the beauty of being visible and joyful in everyday spaces — not just in bars and Pride corridors, but on the very blocks where Logan Square's LGBTQ+ residents live their lives. As one neighbor put it to the crowd: "Welcome to Logan Square, baby."

This year's ceremony is a reminder that Pride in Logan Square is homegrown, neighborhood-deep, and growing stronger every June. Did you make it out to the flag-raising? Share your photos and memories with your neighbors on Socialhood — and keep an eye out for more Pride events popping up across the neighborhood all month long!
