What's Next for Wrigleyville's Entertainment Corridor? Lucky Strike's Exit Opens a New Chapter — and a Hot Dog Fest Is Already Filling the Fun Gap

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Wrigleyville ·

Wrigleyville neighbors have been buzzing this week about a big shake-up on Addison Street. Lucky Strike Wrigleyville — the sprawling 30,000-square-foot bowling alley, arcade, billiards hall, and sports bar that opened in 2019 inside the Addison & Clark complex at 1027 W. Addison St. — has permanently closed its doors, leaving behind one of the largest vacant entertainment spaces in the neighborhood. The closure blindsided dozens of employees who say they received little to no warning, and it comes on the heels of DraftKings announcing it would end in-person sports betting at its nearby Wrigley Field location as of May 31, citing rising city and state taxes. Together, the two departures mark a notable shift in Wrigleyville's gaming-and-entertainment corridor — and have neighbors wondering what exciting new concept might fill that massive footprint next.

But Wrigleyville never stays quiet for long. This coming Saturday, June 13, the neighborhood is serving up two back-to-back reasons to celebrate. First, the Wrigleyville Hot Dog Fest is taking over Old Crow Smokehouse at 3506 N. Clark Street from 12 PM to 5 PM — a full-blown, only-in-Chicago celebration of the iconic ballpark staple, organized by River North Fests. Then that same evening, rock legends OK Go take the outdoor stage at Gallagher Way next to Wrigley Field as part of the Budweiser Concert Series, with gates opening at 6 PM and the show starting at 6:45 PM.

From a big vacancy on Addison to a packed Clark Street Saturday, Wrigleyville's energy is impossible to keep down. Head to RiverNorthFests.com for Hot Dog Fest details, grab your OK Go tickets at the Cubs website, and share your ideas for what should move into Lucky Strike's old digs — your neighborhood wants to hear from you!
