City Council Green-Lights New Homes on Edgewater Ave — Plus, The Rooks Are Kicking Off Summer on the Pitch

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Edgewater ·

Edgewater's building momentum keeps rolling. The Chicago City Council this past Friday, June 6, gave the green light to a brand-new residential development at 1527 W. Edgewater Ave — a midblock property near the intersection of Clark Street where a former church currently stands. Planned by 1527EDGEWATER LLC and designed by MC & Associates, the project will rise as a three-story building with four spacious three-bedroom duplex homes, four parking spaces, and four bike parking spaces. The site will be rezoned from RS-3 to RM-4.5, and with City Council approval now secured, the developer can move forward with permitting and construction. It's another welcome sign that Edgewater continues to attract thoughtful, neighborhood-scale housing investment.

Meanwhile, there's something exciting happening on the pitch this summer. Edgewater Castle FC — home to The Rooks — launched its 2026 season back in May, with both Men's and Women's teams playing home games at Winnemac Stadium (5105 N. Leavitt St., right behind Amundsen High School). Season tickets start at just $60 for adults and $30 for kids, with single-game tickets also available. It's a fantastic way to cheer on your neighbors and soak up some community spirit all summer long.

From new homes being built to local soccer heroes taking the field, Edgewater is firing on all cylinders this June. Grab tickets for The Rooks at edgewater.org, and stay tuned to chicagoyimby.com for the latest on neighborhood development!
