A First-of-Its-Kind Home: Irving Park's Jigzibik Development Nears Completion for Chicago's Native American Community
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Irving Park ·
Something truly historic is rising on Irving Park Road, neighbors — and it's almost ready to welcome its first residents. Jigzibik, a groundbreaking affordable housing development at 2907–2917 W. Irving Park Road, is making remarkable construction progress, with windows now installed across its exterior facades, balconies framed in with glass doors in place, and multi-toned brick detailing on the way. Named for a Potawatomi word meaning "at the river's edge," Jigzibik is the first affordable housing development in Chicago specifically intended for the Native American community — a long-overdue milestone for one of the city's most underserved populations.
Developed by Visionary Ventures and Full Circle Communities, with Skender serving as general contractor, the project broke ground in June of last year. With an approximately 12-month construction timeline, the development team estimates that residents could begin moving into their new homes within just a few months. The building will include 45 units — many designed for multi-occupant households — shaped by direct input from the indigenous community to ensure the space feels culturally relevant and truly welcoming.
For Irving Park, this isn't just another building going up — it's a neighborhood making history. Have you been watching Jigzibik take shape on Irving Park Road? Share your thoughts on this milestone development in the comments below!
