Far South CDC's Food Truck Festival Was a Neighborhood Smash — And the Block Is Just Getting Warmed Up
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Pullman ·
West Pullman's community spirit was on full display recently as the Far South Community Development Corporation (Far South CDC) wrapped up a wildly popular Food Truck Festival — and by all accounts, it was a hit. The event brought neighbors together around great food, local vendors, and the kind of block-party energy that reminds everyone why the Far South Side is one of Chicago's most tight-knit communities. For the Far South CDC, it's the latest in a string of standout community moments, coming fresh off a successful 2026 fundraiser and a 2nd Annual Housing Fair that drew an incredible turnout from residents.
And there's more good news cooking for the neighborhood's physical landscape. The City of Chicago has been seeking proposals to install solar panels on 30 acres of previously developed land in West Pullman — building on the neighborhood's already impressive green energy legacy as home to the largest urban photovoltaic solar plant in the United States. Meanwhile, infrastructure upgrades are in the pipeline too: Cottage Grove Avenue is being extended southbound from 115th Street all the way to 130th Street, with light and visual improvements planned along the corridor — a streetscape transformation that will reshape one of the neighborhood's key connective arteries.
With community celebrations firing on all cylinders and long-overdue infrastructure investments taking shape, West Pullman is writing a new chapter block by block. Follow all the action and upcoming events from the Far South CDC at farsouthcdc.org — and keep your eyes on that Cottage Grove corridor as the work unfolds.
