Roots, Rebirth & Camp Theatrics: Edgewater's Small-Business Heart & Arts Scene Are Thriving This June
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Edgewater ·
Two beloved threads of Edgewater life — its deep-rooted small-business spirit and its vibrant arts scene — are giving neighbors plenty to celebrate this weekend and beyond.
First, a family legacy story with a delicious new chapter. Patricia Guerrero, the owner of Edgewater Tacos, has opened De Colores Mexican Grill at 5403 N. Clark St. in neighboring Andersonville. While Edgewater Tacos — the pick-up taco spot that Guerrero and her brother launched in 2018 — remains a neighborhood staple, De Colores brings something new to the table: a full sit-down dining room and a rear patio perfect for summer. The Guerrero family's roots in the area go back to the 1980s, when their father ran Durango Mexican Restaurant on Thorndale Avenue, and Patricia and her brother were born and raised right here in Edgewater. De Colores is a love letter to that legacy — and a great excuse to make a short Clark Street pilgrimage this weekend.
Meanwhile, the Edgewater Historical Society's beloved monthly Salon series is back with its next installment on Thursday, June 25: *Parody and Camp in Theatre* — a free evening of conversation that's sure to be as witty as it sounds. The Salon series has become one of the neighborhood's most charming low-key cultural traditions. Round out your week with a plate at De Colores and a seat at the Salon — Edgewater's community spirit doesn't take a summer vacation. Visit edgewater.org for more details!
