Sky's the Limit: Bronzeville Eyes a Pair of Bronze Skyscrapers — and City Council Just Greenlit 90 New Homes on Michigan Avenue

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Bronzeville ·

Bronzeville's development momentum is building — quite literally — toward the sky. Two fresh construction milestones are signaling that the South Side's most storied neighborhood is entering a bold new chapter of growth, with both major mixed-income housing and landmark-scale architecture on the horizon.

First, the closer-in news: the Chicago City Council has approved a four-building residential development at 3746 S. Michigan Avenue that will deliver 90 new units to one of Bronzeville's most historic corridors. The project adds meaningful density right along the neighborhood's celebrated Michigan Avenue streetscape — a stretch that has long anchored Bronzeville's architectural identity. Meanwhile, on the grander end of the scale, Griffin Venture Group's breathtaking Metropolis Pointe proposal continues to advance toward city approvals. Planned for the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and 26th Street, the $900 million project calls for a 50-story bronze-glass tower rising 560 feet — complete with a proposed 16,800-square-foot rooftop sky veranda — alongside a complementary mid-rise. Designed by Wight & Company and Studio Barnes, the towers are envisioned as a direct nod to Bronzeville's legacy as Chicago's original Black Metropolis. The development would deliver nearly 600 apartments and roughly 30 condominiums, with affordable units reserved for civil servants including firefighters and postal workers.

With city approvals targeted for 2026 and a groundbreaking eyed for mid-2027, Metropolis Pointe is one to watch closely. Follow Urbanize Chicago for the latest construction and approval updates — and keep an eye on Michigan Avenue, where Bronzeville's newest homes are already one step closer to reality.
