Haven, a one-of-a-kind concept from acclaimed pastry chef Tatum Sinclair — known for her work at Stephen Gillanders' celebrated restaurants S.K.Y. and Valhalla — has opened at 1114 W. Grand Ave., offering something Chicago has never quite seen before: a full tasting menu built entirely around dessert. By day, the cozy spot serves coffee and pastries; by night, it transforms into an intimate, set-menu experience anchored in Sinclair's boundary-pushing pastry artistry.
Haven joins a Grand Avenue stretch that's quietly become one of the city's most exciting dining corridors. Just down the block, Professor Pizza — which held its grand opening earlier this year at 1374 W. Grand Ave. — has been drawing crowds with its seven distinct pizza styles, from New York slice to deep-dish, all out of a lovingly retrofitted retro space. Owner Tony Scardino has made clear his vision goes beyond pizza: he wants the spot to serve as a true community gathering place, with DJ nights and comedy events on the horizon.
