A New Kind of Gathering Place: Queer-Led Sober Venue Coming to Edgewater This August — Plus, WEAR's Summer Soirées Are Here

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Edgewater ·

Edgewater's social scene is about to get a meaningful new addition. A queer-led sober venue is set to open this August in the longtime space that housed an upscale Vietnamese restaurant, which recently closed after 40 years in business — a bittersweet farewell to a neighborhood institution, but an exciting new chapter for a community that has always championed inclusivity. The new spot promises a welcoming, alcohol-free environment, adding a genuinely fresh kind of gathering place to Edgewater's already vibrant mix of bars, cafés, and community hubs.

Meanwhile, over on the west side of the neighborhood, the West Edgewater Area Residents (WEAR) are making sure summer evenings never go to waste. WEAR has locked in its beloved Thursday summer soiree series at the WEAR Garden (5800 N. Ravenswood) — a low-key, community-first tradition that puts neighbors together under the open sky. And if that's not enough, Movies in the Parks is coming to Park #599 (1623 W. Edgewater) and WEAR this summer, bringing Hollywood films right to the neighborhood's backyard. It's exactly the kind of programming that makes Edgewater feel like a real community — not just a collection of addresses.

With the Edgewater Monday Market running every Monday at 3:00 p.m. through the season — including today, July 6! — there's no shortage of ways to connect with your neighbors this week. Check out edgewater.org and wearchicago.org to stay plugged into all the action.
