Smoke, Sound & New Digs: Windy City Smokeout Takes Over Near West Side — Plus a New Mixed-Use Building Gets the Green Light on Madison
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Near West Side ·
Near West Side neighbors, your weekend just got a whole lot louder — and tastier. The Windy City Smokeout has officially taken over the United Center parking lot at 1901 W. Madison St. through Sunday, July 12th, turning the neighborhood into what one local event guide calls "one of Chicago's biggest summer party zones." The fan-favorite festival brings together national country artists and championship pitmasters for five days of live music, slow-smoked barbecue, and cold drinks under the summer sky. This year's headliners include Lainey Wilson and Blake Shelton, making it one of the most star-studded lineups the Near West Side has seen in years. Single-day general admission wristbands are available, so there's still time to catch the final day — don't sleep on it.
While the neighborhood parties on, it's also quietly building for the future. The Chicago City Council this week approved a revised mixed-use development at 2565 W. Madison Street, a project led by Level Development and designed by local firm 2RZ Architecture. The four-story building, which will replace a vacant lot near the intersection of North Western Avenue, is set to deliver 42 residential units alongside ground-floor retail — bringing both new neighbors and new street-level energy to that stretch of Madison.
From a country music blowout steps from the United Center to fresh housing rising on Madison Street, the Near West Side is living its best summer. Grab your Smokeout wristbands at windycitysmokeout.com, and follow Socialhood for all the latest neighborhood updates!
