Neighbors First: Garfield Ridge Pizza Shops Rally Around Obbie's in a Show of Pure Southwest Side Spirit

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Garfield Ridge ·

When one Garfield Ridge institution went down, the rest of the neighborhood stepped up — and the result is one of the most heartwarming stories to come out of the Southwest Side this summer. After a fire temporarily forced Obbie's Pizza, a beloved neighborhood staple near Archer and Normandy avenues, to close its doors, neighboring pizza shops didn't see an opportunity to scoop up customers. They saw a chance to take care of their own.

Triano's Pizza led the charge, holding a fundraiser for Obbie's displaced employees and donating 25% of an entire day's sales to help the workers get back on their feet. "We're here for the community. We're here for the neighborhood — that's what we do," said Jodi Dybais, Triano's manager. Not to be outdone, Cipriani's Pizza jumped in with its own fundraiser this Sunday, pledging 25% of purchases to Obbie's employees when customers mention the restaurant while ordering. Meanwhile, the owner of Obbie's has been working to bring the restaurant's signature pizza to nearby Villa Rosa while repairs get underway — making sure loyal fans don't have to go without their favorite slice.

This is Garfield Ridge at its absolute best: competitors becoming neighbors, and neighbors becoming family. If you're heading out this Sunday, consider stopping by Cipriani's and placing an order for Obbie's crew. Drop your support messages on the Socialhood feed — let's show the Southwest Side that this community always shows up!
