Art Comes Alive on Milwaukee Avenue: Portage Park Is Now Part of Chicago's Newest Public Art Trail
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Portage Park ·
Portage Park just got a whole lot more colorful — and you can experience it right outside your front door. The brand-new Northwest Art Trail on Milwaukee Avenue is officially here, and it's turning the neighborhood's most iconic corridor into a living, breathing open-air gallery. Conceived and launched by Arts Alive Chicago with the support of state Sen. Robert Martwick, the trail connects Jefferson Park and Portage Park through a curated collection of sculptures, murals, and arts organizations — making it one of the most exciting public art additions the Northwest Side has seen in years.
The trail transforms everyday strolls along Milwaukee Avenue into something genuinely memorable. Whether you're heading to a local café, running errands, or just taking a summer walk, you're now doing it alongside striking public art that reflects and celebrates the spirit of these Northwest Side communities. It's the kind of neighborhood upgrade that doesn't ask anything of you — just that you slow down, look around, and appreciate what's right in front of you.
And there's even more community fun on the horizon: the Portage Park Chamber of Commerce has dropped its fresh July–August 2026 newsletter, packed with upcoming local events to keep the summer buzzing on the Northwest Side. From art to eats to neighborhood happenings, Portage Park is proving once again that there's no better place to be this summer. Have you walked the new Northwest Art Trail yet? Share your favorite mural or sculpture with the Socialhood community — we want to see the Northwest Side through your eyes!
