Pages, Prizes & Southwest Side Pride: Garfield Ridge Library's Summer Reading Program Is One You Won't Want to Miss

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Garfield Ridge ·

Summer in Garfield Ridge isn't just about block parties and backyard barbecues — it's also about keeping young minds sharp, and the Garfield Ridge Branch of the Chicago Public Library is delivering in a big way this season. The library's annual Summer@Chicago reading and learning program is in full swing, running eight weeks from June 8 through August 2 under the theme "Chapters of Chicago" — and the Garfield Ridge branch has loaded up the prize lineup with some seriously exciting local rewards.

Kids ages 0 through 13 who participate can earn a summer reading t-shirt, and the Garfield Ridge branch is sweetening the deal with raffles for Brookfield Zoo tickets with free parking, back-to-school backpacks stuffed with supplies, and art kits — all while encouraging neighborhood children to keep reading, learning, and exploring their city all summer long. The program is free, open to all ages, and runs alongside a packed calendar of in-branch events at the library's home at Archer Avenue and Mulligan.

With summer day camp at Valley Forge Park already humming and the neighborhood calendar fuller than ever, the Garfield Ridge Library is making sure every kid on the Southwest Side has something to look forward to this summer — no matter their budget. Stop by the branch, grab your reading log, and get started. Share your summer reading milestones on the Socialhood feed and cheer on your neighbors — Garfield Ridge reads together!
