Colombian Fest Lands in Humboldt Park This Weekend — and a New 44-Unit Affordable Housing Win Is Making Waves Too
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Humboldt Park ·
Humboldt Park is gearing up for a festive and forward-looking week. Starting tomorrow, Friday, July 17, the park at 2800 W. Division becomes the backdrop for Colombian Fest Chicago 2026, a vibrant multi-day celebration of Colombian culture featuring live music, food, and community spirit running through the weekend. The festival adds yet another international cultural stamp to a summer that continues to prove Humboldt Park is one of Chicago's most dynamic gathering places.
But the neighborhood buzz doesn't stop at the festival grounds. A major housing milestone is also in the spotlight: the Hispanic Housing Development Corporation's proposed 44-unit affordable apartment building at 3251 W. Division St. cleared a critical hurdle after receiving approval from Ald. Jessie Fuentes (26th) and the City Council's zoning committee. The $36 million, six-story development would bring 12 one-bedroom, 25 two-bedroom, and 7 three-bedroom below-market units to a long-vacant lot — complete with a community room, library, fitness area, and courtyard. Ald. Daniel La Spata (1st) also threw his support behind the project, calling it essential for working-class families who deserve to stay rooted in the neighborhood they love.
From a weekend of Colombian rhythms to the promise of dozens of new affordable homes, Humboldt Park is writing a story of culture and community in real time. Head to Humboldt Park this weekend to catch Colombian Fest — and keep an eye on 3251 W. Division for what's coming next.
