A Chicago Breakfast Legend Is Coming Home: Ann Sather Returns to Wicker Park After Nearly Two Decades Away
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Wicker Park ·
Wicker Park's Division Street is about to get a whole lot sweeter. Ann Sather — the Chicago breakfast institution famous for its pillowy cinnamon rolls and Swedish-inspired morning fare — is returning to the neighborhood after a nearly 20-year absence, opening a new full-service location at 1819 W. Division St., the former home of Yolk restaurant.
Owner Tom Tunney, who represented Lakeview as alderman for 20 years until 2023, confirmed the July opening timeline earlier this spring. The move to Division Street carries a sentimental charge: Ann Sather previously operated on Milwaukee Avenue in Wicker Park from 2001 to 2007, before adjacent construction caused structural damage that forced an abrupt closure. "We're delighted to return to the West Town area," Tunney said. "Our new Division Street restaurant is an ideal location for Ann Sather as many of our customers live in the area." The new spot will serve as the brand's third Chicago location currently in operation, stepping in to replace the longtime Belmont Avenue restaurant, which is closing this summer as a developer prepares to build apartments on the site.
With Wicker Park Fest lighting up Milwaukee Avenue July 24–26 — drawing upwards of 75,000 visitors to the neighborhood — Ann Sather's arrival adds even more reason to make a weekend of it. Stop by 1819 W. Division St. and welcome a true Chicago classic back home. Stay up to date on all neighborhood news at wickerparkbucktown.com!
