$5.5 Million Retail Development Coming to Cicero Avenue: Garfield Ridge's Biggest Commercial Win in Years
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Garfield Ridge ·
Big things are coming to Cicero Avenue — and Garfield Ridge residents have every reason to be excited. The City of Chicago's Department of Planning and Development has selected a $5.5 million retail project to transform a long-vacant parcel at 4301–37 S. Cicero Ave. into a brand-new commercial destination for the Southwest Side. The development, planned by Blackwood Group LLC and GoVest LLC in response to a 2025 City RFP, will bring an 18,000-square-foot, single-story building featuring up to 14 storefronts for potential retailers, service providers, and restaurants — plus 34 parking spaces and fresh landscaping. For a site that has sat empty for more than 20 years, just one mile from Midway Airport and across the street from the planned 32-acre LeClaire Courts mixed-use project, this is nothing short of a neighborhood game-changer.
The timing couldn't be better. With the Garfield Ridge 2050 community plan already calling for more shopping and amenities along the neighborhood's main corridors, this development is exactly the kind of real investment that turns vision into reality. Fourteen new storefronts means fourteen new opportunities for local entrepreneurs, beloved regional brands, and community-serving businesses to plant a flag right here on the Southwest Side.
Stay tuned as this project moves through the city approval process — and in the meantime, the Garfield Ridge Chamber of Commerce has its annual Golf Outing lined up for August 9th at Stony Creek, a perfect chance to connect with the local business community helping shape what's next.
