Green Thumbs & Clean Shores: Edgewater's Environmental Volunteers Are Making Their Mark This August

If you've noticed the dunes at Kathy Osterman Beach looking a little more lush lately — or the grounds at Berger Park a little more cared for — you can thank your neighbors. The Edgewater Environmental Coalition (EEC) has been running a full slate of hands-on volunteer days all summer long, and August is shaping up to be the most active month yet.
The EEC's Beach Stewardship Volunteer Days bring neighbors out to the natural area at Kathy Osterman Beach (also known as Hollywood/Ardmore Beach, 5800 N. Lake Shore Dr.) to help clean up and restore the lakefront dunes — one of Edgewater's most beloved natural assets. Meanwhile, the Berger Park Monthly Volunteer Day at 6205 N. Sheridan Rd. gives green-thumbed neighbors a chance to dig in on gardening and community beautification right along the lakefront. And closer to the neighborhood's western edge, the Vedgewater Community Garden Work Days offer yet another way to get your hands in the soil and connect with fellow residents who care about growing something beautiful together.
These aren't passive appreciation events — they're real, sweat-equity commitments that keep Edgewater's outdoor spaces thriving.
