Humboldt Park's FarmWorks Garden Gets a City Boost — and a New Art Lounge Is Turning Heads on Grand Avenue

Humboldt Park is growing — in more ways than one. Just this week, the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) and G.E.T. Solutions celebrated the launch of a brand-new community garden partnership right here in the neighborhood. FarmWorks, located at 407 N. Albany Avenue, was named the fourth site in the 811 Chicago Damage Prevention Garden initiative — a citywide program that pairs underground safety awareness with real, hands-on investment in neighborhood green spaces. The partnership also creates training opportunities for Greencorps Chicago participants, putting local residents to work while beautifying the block. It's a win-win that puts Humboldt Park squarely on the city's radar for green community investment.

And if you haven't made it to 3638 W. Grand Ave. yet this summer, there's a new neighborhood gem waiting for you. Visceral Adventure Lounge — described by its founder Tonika Todorova as "your expanded living room in Humboldt Park" — opened its doors earlier this summer as a full-blown community art hub. The space features a stage with full lighting and sound, live instruments, leather couches, vintage décor, and a calendar packed with open mics, jazz shows, theater performances, backgammon nights, and even after-school homework help for kids. Todorova, a two-decade veteran of Chicago's storefront theater scene, envisioned a place where neighbors could feel, in her words, "aesthetically alive."

From a flourishing new garden on Albany to a living room for the arts on Grand, Humboldt Park keeps proving it's one of Chicago's most dynamic and community-driven neighborhoods. Stop by FarmWorks to see the garden grow, and put Visceral Adventure Lounge on your calendar for a night out that's anything but ordinary.
