Lights, Jazz, and a Dog Party: Washington Park's Fall Porch Hours Hit Their Stride This Weekend With BLINK and More

By Socialhood News · Washington Park ·

Washington Park is in the middle of one of its busiest — and most eclectic — stretches of fall programming, and today, Sunday, October 11, is a prime example. BLINK at Washington Park, a multi-night light and art experience, has been running since Thursday, October 8, and wraps up tonight, making this your last chance to catch it before it goes dark. The event is part of the park's 2026 Fall Porch Hours series, which has been filling the calendar with free, community-centered programming every single day through the season.

BLINK is the marquee attraction of the week, but it hasn't been the only draw. Fall Porch Hours at Washington Park have been running daily from the late afternoon through the evening — 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, and stretching from 11 a.m. to as late as 9 p.m. on weekends. Today's hours run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with Live Music at the Porch continuing from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. — a free afternoon set that pairs naturally with a BLINK send-off as the sun goes down tonight.

Earlier this week, the programming leaned into an impressive range of neighborhood interests. On Monday, October 5, Jazz at the Park featured the Jordan Pollard Trio performing from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. — a free evening concert that brought live jazz back to one of Chicago's most storied green spaces. The Jazz at the Park series continues next Monday, October 12, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., giving neighbors a reason to start the week right. On Tuesday, October 6, the park hosted Trivia Night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., a recurring hit on the Fall Porch Hours calendar. And on Wednesday, October 7, Mission Vet Urgent Care sponsored Yappy Hour — a community social for dog owners and their four-legged neighbors — from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The partnership with Mission Vet brought a local pet care business into the park's programming orbit in a way that felt genuinely neighborly: show up, let the dogs run, meet the people on your block.

All of it is programmed by 3CDC, the nonprofit community development corporation that has been the engine behind Washington Park's Fall Series, keeping the park activated and welcoming deep into the autumn calendar. The model is simple and effective: free events, diverse formats, and a consistent presence that gives residents a reason to show up week after week. From Drag Bingo to live jazz to dog socials to light installations, the Fall Porch Hours series reflects the full breadth of who lives in and loves Washington Park.

Looking ahead, the programming doesn't slow down. Trivia Night returns Tuesday, October 13, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Wednesday, October 14, FC Cincinnati will host a PreMatch at the Park event from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. — a sports-and-community crossover that brings professional soccer's fan culture into the neighborhood ahead of match day. That same evening, Workout on the Green runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for those who prefer their fall programming with a bit more sweat. Drag Bingo returns October 15 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and The Porch Set — the park's live music series — picks back up October 16 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The week closes with what may be its most distinctive event: The City Flea arrives at Washington Park on Saturday, October 17, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The City Flea is one of Chicago's best-known curated vintage and maker markets, and its appearance in Washington Park signals the kind of cross-neighborhood draw that the Fall Series is built for — the sort of event that brings curious visitors from across the city while giving local vendors and neighbors a shared weekend destination.

For residents who want to take in BLINK's final night, Washington Park is located at 5531 S. Martin Luther King Dr. Full Fall Porch Hours schedules — including all upcoming Jazz at the Park dates, Trivia Nights, and The City Flea — are available at washingtonpark.org. Events are free and open to all. The Washington Park Advisory Council meets every third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m.; visit washingtonpark.org for meeting schedules and community updates.
