Galewood Park's Free 'Boo-tiful Adventure' Is Five Days Away — Here's Everything You Need to Know

By Socialhood News · Galewood ·

Halloween is almost here, and Galewood Park has something special lined up for the neighborhood's youngest residents. On Friday, October 30, the park at 5729 W. Bloomingdale Ave. will host its annual "Boo-tiful Adventure" — a free, family-friendly Halloween celebration running from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. that the Chicago Park District bills as a "magical, not-so-scary" event.

The programming is genuinely packed for a two-hour window. Kids can move through a series of activity stations at their own pace, including Story Time, Spooky Bingo, a Photo Booth Station, a Ghost Hunt Adventure, a Craft Station, Pumpkin Toss, and Monster Bowling — with the Park District promising more "boo-tiful surprises" on the night itself. Costumes are encouraged, and the event is free of charge with no pre-registration required.

The Halloween party has become a Galewood Park tradition. The park's own history notes that it "opens its doors to the community for its annual Halloween party" each year — a ritual that families in the neighborhood have counted on for years. For parents with young kids at Sayre Elementary or others nearby, the October 30 date lands on the Friday before Halloween, making it a perfect warm-up to the holiday weekend.

The Boo-tiful Adventure is one piece of a robust fall season at Galewood Park, which runs programming through December 13. The park's current fall roster includes Arts & Crafts for kids ages 7–11 (Wednesdays, 3:30–4:45 p.m.; free), Chair Exercise for adults 60 and up (Thursdays, noon–1:30 p.m.; free), Drop-in After School for kids ages 6–11 (Fridays, 4:00–5:30 p.m.; free), and Art & ABCs for younger children (Tuesdays, 12:30–1:30 p.m.; $5). The Game Room is also open Wednesdays from 4:45–6:00 p.m. for kids ages 7–11 at no cost.

Taken together, it's a strong lineup for a neighborhood park — and a reminder that Galewood Park is not just a green space but a genuine community hub offering free and low-cost programming for toddlers, school-age kids, teens, and seniors across the week. With so much attention in the neighborhood rightly focused on bigger-picture questions like the Mars Wrigley redevelopment and the long-awaited library, it's worth pausing to appreciate what's already here and already working.

If you plan to bring your kids to the Boo-tiful Adventure on October 30, arrive at Galewood Park — 5729 W. Bloomingdale Ave. — between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. dressed in costume and ready to explore. The event is free and open to youth of all ages. For the full fall program schedule and to register for any of the ongoing classes, visit chicagoparkdistrict.com and search for Galewood Park.
