Wrigleyville Wonderland Is Here: 20+ Bars Transform Into Holiday Destinations Starting This Weekend
By Socialhood News · Wrigleyville ·
Wrigleyville neighbors, the baseball-and-Halloween chapter is officially closed — and the neighborhood is wasting exactly zero time pivoting to what comes next. This weekend, the annual Wrigleyville Wonderland holiday bar transformation kicks off across more than 20 Clark Street corridor establishments, turning the block into one of the most densely decorated holiday bar districts in the country. The first venue flips its theme tonight, November 1, and the rollout runs through late December — meaning the next eight weeks on the block will look, feel, and frankly taste very different from October.
The scope of Wrigleyville Wonderland 2026 is genuinely staggering. According to the Wrigleyville Chicago event guide published this week, Underground Lounge opens its holiday theme — dubbed "Island of Misfit Toys" — on November 1, making it the first bar on the block to flip. Stretch Chicago follows with "Elf'd Up" on November 7. Then the wave really hits: Brickhouse Tavern's "Home Run Holidays" opens November 11, and Almost Home Tavern & Grill ("Almost Home Alone"), Kincade's Wrigley ("Christmas at Kincade's"), and Roadhouse 66 ("Jingle Junkie") all open their holiday themes on November 13. The following week, The Cubby Bear ("The Polar Bear") and Sports Corner ("Santa's Scoreboard") join in on November 16 before a massive November 20 opening wave brings Country Club ("Christmas Club"), Big Star Wrigleyville ("Holly Dolly Honky Tonk"), Mordecai ("Mistletoe at Mordecai"), Moe's Cantina ("Noche Buena"), Stolen Saddle ("Santa Baby Bar"), and Merkle's ("The Nutcracker") all online simultaneously. Brokedown Palace ("Brokedown Christmas"), The Graystone Tavern ("8 Crazy Nights"), and Happy Camper ("Happy Alchoholidays") round out the November 23 wave, with Billy Goat Tavern ("Santa's Reingoats") opening November 27 and Dad's Place ("Santa's Place") holding out until December 1.
For neighbors, the practical picture is one of enormous variety. Whether your holiday bar preference runs toward the irreverent (Elf'd Up at Stretch Chicago), the classic (Christmas at Kincade's), or the outright absurd (Island of Misfit Toys at Underground Lounge), there is a themed room on the corridor for you within walking distance of the Red Line Addison stop. No single bar needs to carry the whole holiday season — the collective effect of 20-plus individually themed venues is what makes Wrigleyville Wonderland a draw that pulls visitors from across the city and beyond, not just locals.
But bars are only one layer of what's arriving in Wrigleyville this month. On Saturday, November 4 — just three days from now — Wrigley Field itself shifts from baseball mode to college football mode, hosting Northwestern University's Wildcats against the Iowa Hawkeyes. It will be one of the final major events at the ballpark before the holiday season fully takes hold of the block, and it gives the neighborhood one more packed-stadium Saturday before Gallagher Way transitions into its winter configuration.
That transition happens on November 20, when Gallagher Way at 3637 N. Clark St. launches both Winterland and Christkindlmarket Wrigleyville simultaneously. CBS Chicago reported on October 29 that the dual opening marks the return of outdoor ice skating and holiday train rides around Wrigley Field, alongside the Christkindlmarket's 28 timber stalls offering glühwein, raclette, bratwurst, and specialty goods. Per the CBS report, admission to both the market and Winterland is free, though rides on the holiday train, access to the Gallagher ice rink, Christkindlmarket merchandise, photobooth pictures, and food and beverages are all available for purchase on-site. Hours run Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Winterland runs through New Year's Eve. The Gallagher Ice Rink is expected to operate from November 22 through February 14, 2027, giving the neighborhood an outdoor skating destination that outlasts the holiday season itself by nearly two months.
Taken together, this opening weekend of November represents a genuine hinge point for Wrigleyville's identity. The neighborhood has spent the last month processing a playoff run, a federal rooftop ruling, a parking lot fight, and the start of a $32 million bollard construction project. Now, in the span of a single weekend, the energy shifts: Underground Lounge hangs its first holiday lights tonight, Northwestern fans descend on Saturday, and the countdown to the November 20 Gallagher Way opening begins in earnest. The block has always been good at reinventing itself season to season — and the 2026 edition of Wrigleyville Wonderland, with more than 20 individually themed bars rolling out across the next four weeks, is the most elaborate version of that reinvention yet.
Neighbors, which Wrigleyville Wonderland theme are you most excited to visit first — Island of Misfit Toys at Underground Lounge tonight, Holly Dolly Honky Tonk at Big Star on November 20, or one of the other 20-plus bars on the list? And are you planning to catch the Northwestern-Iowa game at Wrigley this Saturday? Drop your plans in the comments and let your neighbors know where to find you on the block this holiday season.
