New 'Void' Restaurant Creates Buzz in Avondale's Thriving Food Scene

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Avondale ·

Avondale's dining landscape continues to evolve with the grand opening of Void, the neighborhood's newest culinary destination which launched on September 18th, 2025. The restaurant joins the area's impressive roster of eateries that have been making Avondale one of Chicago's most exciting food neighborhoods.

Local food critics have noted that "Avondale's dining scene is having a moment," with the neighborhood attracting innovative chefs and unique concepts. The area now hosts everything from Ukrainian cuisine at Anelya to the popular Honey Butter Fried Chicken, which recently expanded with a new location in Lincoln Park. Honey Butter's new venture, Honey Butter Beach Club, opened on September 15th inside SPF Chicago, featuring their classic chicken dishes alongside beach-inspired options like a honey butter warmed lobster roll. Owners Christine Cikowski and Josh Kulp describe the concept as a "laid-back mix of comfort food and coastal flair."

What makes Avondale special is how it has evolved from its industrial roots while maintaining its working-class character. Historically home to brick-making plants and lumber yards that helped rebuild Chicago after the Great Fire, the neighborhood has been shaped by waves of Polish and Latino immigrants. Today, it's becoming a vibrant hub for artists and food enthusiasts, offering some of the city's best under-the-radar dining experiences. Residents and visitors are encouraged to explore these new culinary destinations this weekend and support local businesses that make our neighborhood unique.
