West Pullman Set for Renaissance with $200 Million Development Project
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Pullman ·
West Pullman is poised for a major transformation as the Far South Community Development Corporation advances plans for a $200 million investment in the neighborhood. The ambitious project targets the commercial corridor at 115th and Halsted streets, aiming to revitalize an area that has seen businesses come and go over the years.
The development will feature a 12-acre, 258-unit mixed-use project designed to create a more walkable community with expanded housing options. "We haven't really invested a lot in affordable housing, and that's what's going to keep people here," said Abraham Lacy, president of the Far South Community Development Corporation. The vision includes residents enjoying a two-and-a-half-acre park and having access to restaurants and retail facilities at ground level.
Additionally, Habitat for Humanity Chicago is deepening its investment in West Pullman with a twenty-townhome project located across from the future Morgan Park Commons. The first block of four townhomes is expected to be completed in 2025, with Jennifer Parks, Habitat Chicago's Executive Director, noting: "West Pullman has many incredible assets on which to build, and inviting 20 new homebuyers to invest in this community alongside other long-tenured homeowners creates a lasting impact." Residents interested in learning more about these developments can attend the upcoming community meeting at West Pullman Park next Tuesday at 6:30 PM.
