Wrigleyville to Welcome Chicago's Second-Largest Dog Park as Spring Construction Approaches
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Wrigleyville ·
After years of organizing, fundraising, and community advocacy, Lakeview's first dedicated dog park is finally approaching reality with construction expected to begin this spring. The project, which gained momentum after a 2022 referendum showed more than 80 percent of 44th Ward voters supported creating a dog park, will soon transform a space near Lake Shore Drive into a 25,000 square foot canine paradise.
The Lakeview Dog Park, which will be Chicago's second-largest behind only the Montrose Beach dog area, will feature a thoughtfully designed space including a central artificial turf green surrounded by a paved walking loop, with wood chips and trees along the perimeter. Dog owners will appreciate the separate small dog area with its own entrance, three shaded plazas with paver walls, a hard-top shelter with windbreak walls, and an accessible observation deck for people with wheelchairs and strollers. "We've kept our eye on the ball because we believe in what this means for Lakeview," said Danny Bernstein, president of the Lakeview Dog Park Council. "It's good for the dogs, but it's great for the people. We can't wait to cut that ribbon next year."
Wrigleyville residents and visitors looking to support this exciting neighborhood addition can purchase commemorative tiles to honor their pets, with options starting at $300. The project represents a true community effort and will provide a much-needed dedicated space for the neighborhood's many dog owners to gather safely.
