Healing House Transforms Lives: West Englewood's Wellness Hub Announces Fall Community Programs

West Englewood residents now have access to free mental health and wellness resources at the Healing House, a once-abandoned bungalow that has been transformed into a vibrant three-story wellness center. Located at 6421 S. Honore St., the center was developed by nonprofit Imagine Englewood If after raising $400,000 for renovations.

The Healing House is part of the Peace Campus, a community-centered space offering comprehensive support to residents. The first floor serves as a community gathering space where workshops and healthy cooking demonstrations take place, while the second floor hosts individual and group counseling sessions. The basement is being developed into a fitness center to provide holistic wellness options. The center specifically aims to support community members who have witnessed traumatic events and address the widening life expectancy gap through its programming. "The challenges we face are deeply interconnected," explains Michelle Rashad, Executive Director of Imagine Englewood If. "Unemployment fuels food insecurity. Food insecurity impacts public safety. Public safety is tied to housing stability. And at the center of it all is mental health because every issue we face touches the mind, heart and spirit of people."

The center welcomes volunteers and community partnerships as part of its mission to revitalize West Englewood through health and healing.
