Lakeview Landing Opens Doors, Portillo's Coming to Wrigleyville as Neighborhood Evolves
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Wrigleyville ·
Mayor Brandon Johnson recently cut the ribbon at the newly completed Lakeview Landing affordable housing development in Wrigleyville, officially opening 37 fully accessible homes designed specifically for residents with disabilities. The six-story development at 835 W. Addison Street, just two blocks east of Wrigley Field, represents a significant addition to the neighborhood's housing landscape and demonstrates what "the City and community can do when we commit to dignity, accessibility and inclusion," according to Mayor Johnson.
The innovative project is a collaboration between nonprofit Over the Rainbow Association, Lakeview Lutheran Church, and the City of Chicago. All apartments are one-bedroom units designed for accessibility, particularly for residents using wheelchairs, with rents capped for households earning up to 30 percent of the area median income. The ground floor community room will serve the church for Sunday services while remaining available to other neighborhood groups throughout the week. Meanwhile, Chicago's iconic hot dog and Italian beef chain, Portillo's, is planning to open a new restaurant in Wrigleyville at 3519 N. Clark Street, just steps from Wrigley Field. This will mark the fourth Portillo's location within city limits, placing the classic Chicago eatery right in the heart of one of the city's busiest and most beloved neighborhoods.
The arrival of Portillo's could further cement Wrigleyville as a must-visit food destination, adding to the neighborhood's impressive mix of classic taverns, modern sports bars, and trendy restaurants. Beyond providing another familiar, crowd-pleasing dining option, these developments showcase Wrigleyville's ongoing evolution – a thoughtful blend of old-school Chicago charm and modern, high-energy appeal that continues to make the area one of the city's most vibrant communities. Residents are encouraged to visit both new additions to experience firsthand how Wrigleyville continues to grow while maintaining its unique neighborhood character.
