Chicago's Most Iconic Hot Dog Is Finally Coming to Wrigleyville: Portillo's Announces Clark Street Location
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Wrigleyville ·
Wrigleyville neighbors, the hot dog has officially come home. Portillo's — the Chicago-born institution beloved for its Chicago-style hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches — has announced it is opening its very first Wrigleyville location, and the neighborhood could not be more ready. The announcement dropped on National Hot Dog Day, July 15, and the timing was pure Portillo's magic.
The new restaurant will be located at 3519 N. Clark St., just a block south of Wrigley Field, and will occupy the first floor of the mixed-use building that's already home to Alamo Drafthouse, Shake Shack, Tin Roof, and a UFC gym. The space will span approximately 4,600 square feet with seating for more than 60 guests — and here's the kicker: the Wrigleyville outpost will feature Portillo's very first-ever walk-up window, a game-changer for the pre-game crowds pouring down Clark Street on game days. It will become Portillo's fifth Chicago location overall and its 46th in the greater Chicagoland area, with an expected opening in 2027.
For decades, Wrigleyville neighbors and Cubs fans have been asking: why is there no Portillo's near the ballpark? That question finally has an answer. Whether you're grabbing a Chicago dog before first pitch or an Italian beef after the final out, one of the city's most iconic dining experiences is coming to your backyard. Neighbors, are you hyped for Portillo's on Clark Street? Drop your go-to order in the comments and let's count down to opening day together!
