By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Avondale ·
Chicago's architecture enthusiasts and music lovers will have a rare opportunity to explore hidden gems throughout the city during the fifteenth annual Open House Chicago, taking place on October 18-19, 2025. The free festival provides behind-the-scenes access to places of architectural, historical, and cultural significance across Chicago neighborhoods.
Among the thirty new sites debuting this year is the legendary Electrical Audio recording studio in Avondale. Located on Belmont Avenue, this renowned studio was founded by the late Steve Albini in 1997 and has been the recording site for thousands of musicians, from world-famous artists to independent bands. The studio has become an iconic part of Avondale's cultural landscape and has helped put Chicago on the musical map. Visitors will be able to explore the two-studio complex, including Studio A with its three performance spaces and large control room featuring a 48-channel Neotek Elite console, and Studio B with its impressive 800-square-foot live room with 30-foot ceiling.
In other Avondale news, Metric Coffee recently opened Milli, a new cafe and roastery in the neighborhood, transforming a 12,000-square-foot former antiques warehouse into the company's new headquarters. This development, which has been in the works since 2021, adds another vibrant community space to the area. Residents and visitors are encouraged to take advantage of this unique opportunity to experience both the musical heritage and evolving character of Avondale during the Open House weekend.
