West Englewood Transit Hub Plans Move Forward: City Seeks Developers for 63rd and Ashland Site
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Englewood ·
West Englewood residents will soon see new development at a key transportation corridor as the Department of Planning and Development announced plans to revitalize the area around 63rd and Ashland. The site is among nearly 500 City-owned properties being made available for private purchase starting October 1, according to Commissioner Ciere Boatright. The eight City-owned parcels and CTA-owned parking lot near the Ashland Green Line station are being offered for mixed-use redevelopment projects that will leverage the area's transit access.
"Each of these locations represents a choice opportunity to invest and contribute to neighborhood growth, re-population and community-wealth building," Commissioner Boatright said of the initiative. The West Englewood transit-oriented development site is part of the city's broader effort to bring new investment to South Side communities. The announcement comes as the area has already begun seeing positive changes with community-focused developments like the Go Green Community Fresh Market, which provides residents with fresh produce, healthy options, and ready-to-eat meals prepared on site.
Developers interested in the West Englewood site have until January 5, 2026, to submit proposals through the city's RFP process. Residents who want to learn more about these development opportunities or share input can visit ChiBlockBuilder.com or Chicago.gov/RFPs for additional information.
