Avondale Gardening Alliance Hosts Annual Harvest Fest Social at Sleeping Village This Weekend
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Avondale ·
The Avondale Gardening Alliance (AGA) invites residents to celebrate the growing season at their annual Harvest Fest Social this Sunday, October 27, from 3-6pm at Sleeping Village (3734 W. Belmont Ave). The community potluck marks the culmination of months of work at the neighborhood's Mindful Living Garden on Drake Street, which provides fresh produce to address food insecurity in Avondale.
The event brings together gardeners and neighbors to appreciate and share the season's abundance. Participants are encouraged to bring dishes that incorporate ingredients from their gardens, though any contribution to the potluck is welcome. The partnership with Sleeping Village provides a spacious patio setting for this community gathering.
The Mindful Living Garden, managed by AGA volunteers, has been a cornerstone of urban agriculture in Avondale, providing much-needed green space in one of Chicago's most park-poor neighborhoods. Beyond growing produce, the organization hosts educational workshops, seedling swaps, and community dinners to promote food security and neighborhood connections. Residents interested in learning more about urban gardening or volunteering are encouraged to attend Sunday's event and connect with fellow Avondale neighbors who share a passion for sustainable community development.
