Englewood Connect Food Hub Nears Completion: Historic Firehouse Transformation to Bring Culinary Incubator to West Englewood
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Englewood ·
West Englewood residents will soon have a new culinary destination as the Englewood Connect project transforms the historic Engine Co. 84 firehouse at 6204 S. Green Street into an entrepreneurial and community hub. The
The development, which broke ground in 2022, is designed specifically to support local businesses and entrepreneurs from the neighborhood. According to Alderman Stephanie Coleman's office, Englewood Connect will create a culinary ecosystem and flexible public spaces that include hoop houses for growing fresh produce and a business incubator to help local start-ups flourish. The historic fire station, originally built in 1929, is being restored to become a commercial kitchen and venue space, while the second phase will see the construction of the 'Green Street Commons' and the 'Englewood Living Room' - a year-round pavilion with operable doors and windows for markets, co-working spaces, and community gatherings.
Residents interested in learning more about entrepreneurial opportunities or upcoming programming at Englewood Connect can contact the Greater Englewood Community Development Corporation or visit the 16th Ward office for information. Community members are encouraged to follow the project's progress and get involved as this transformative space prepares to open its doors to the public.
