Palmer Square Park Unveils New Winter Programs as Chicago's First Arboretum

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Palmer Square ·

Palmer Square Park is embracing the winter season with new programming that highlights its recent designation as Chicago's first arboretum. The Palmer Square Park Advisory Council announced this week their upcoming winter events calendar, which will offer residents opportunities to enjoy the park's impressive collection of 28 tree species even during the colder months.

The winter programming follows a successful summer of community engagement through the 'Live on Logan' concert series that concluded in September. According to the council's recent announcement, winter activities will include guided tree identification walks, seasonal crafting workshops using natural materials gathered from the park, and family-friendly outdoor exploration events designed to connect neighbors while appreciating the arboretum's winter landscape.

"Our newly designated arboretum status gives more weight to tree preservation and education in the Palmer Square area," said a representative from the Palmer Square Park Advisory Council. Residents interested in participating in the new winter programs or volunteering for tree preservation efforts are encouraged to visit the Palmer Square Park Council website or attend their next community meeting, where fundraising for 2026 programming and maintaining the arboretum will be discussed.
