Lea French Café Opens New South Loop Location with Artisanal Pastry Workshop
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/South Loop ·
Lea French Café has expanded its Chicago presence with a new South Loop location, celebrating its grand opening with a special artisanal pastry workshop on November 5, 2025. Co-owners Colleen Wagner-Caulliez and Nicolas Caulliez welcomed neighborhood residents to the Michigan Avenue café, which features their signature handcrafted French pastries including their popular almond croissants.
The café is part of a growing trend of unique local businesses helping revitalize downtown Chicago neighborhoods. Commercial real estate experts note that distinctive dining options like Lea create what industry professionals call "stickiness" for nearby office buildings and residential developments, making the South Loop increasingly attractive to both workers and residents. "Having a good restaurant creates stickiness for an office building," explained Jeff Lindenmeyer, principal with commercial real estate firm Avison Young, highlighting how quality dining establishments make tenants reluctant to leave areas that provide comfortable places to socialize or meet clients.
South Loop residents are encouraged to visit the new café, which offers both indoor and outdoor seating perfect for the upcoming holiday season. The owners plan to host monthly pastry-making demonstrations and coffee tasting events throughout winter, creating a new community gathering space for the neighborhood.
