Humboldt Park's New Life Church Celebrates 60 Years of Community Service and Transformation

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Humboldt Park ·

A small church making a big difference is celebrating a major milestone this month. Iglesia Nueva Vida, or New Life Church, has been serving the Humboldt Park neighborhood for six decades, marking its 60th anniversary as a community cornerstone at the intersection of Mozart and Waubansia.

Founded in 1965 by Pastor Ignacio Marrero during a challenging time for the neighborhood, the church has expanded beyond religious services to address community needs. Under current leadership of Pastor Jarixon "Jaro" Medina, the congregation maintains its founding mission of being "a church for the hurting." The organization has grown to include community services like a women's shelter in an adjacent building they purchased, exemplifying their commitment to serving beyond the church walls.

Residents interested in learning more about New Life Church's community programs or anniversary celebrations can visit the Spanish campus location at Mozart and Waubansia streets. The church continues to serve as a beacon of positive change in Humboldt Park, demonstrating how small organizations can create lasting impacts through dedicated service and community involvement.
