Ferrara Original Bakery Unveils Historic Renovation and Expanded Menu in University Village

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/University Village Little Italy ·

The iconic Ferrara Original Bakery in University Village Little Italy has completed a significant renovation just in time for the holiday season. The historic establishment, founded when Salvatore Ferrara met and married Serafina Pagano, has long been a neighborhood cornerstone known for providing Chicago with wonderful desserts and candies. While the Ferrara Pan Candy Company went on to create internationally recognized treats like Lemonheads and Atomic Fireballs, the bakery has remained a beloved local institution.

The newly renovated space preserves the bakery's classic charm while expanding its offerings. Visitors can now enjoy an enhanced selection of cakes, custom filled cakes, pastries, and their famous cannoli, alongside an updated food menu featuring sandwiches, salads, pasta, pizza, and Italian entrees. The bakery's signature caprese sandwich with tomato, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, and pesto aioli on toasted French bread has already become a neighborhood favorite. Residents are encouraged to visit the refreshed space this weekend and share photos of their experience on social media using #UVLITradition to celebrate this enduring piece of Little Italy's cultural heritage.
