Midwest Design Brand Raygun to Open First Chicago Store in South Loop This March

South Loop retail enthusiasts have something exciting to look forward to this spring as popular Midwest brand Raygun prepares to open its doors at 5 N. State Street in March 2026. The independent printing, design, and clothing chain, which began with founder Mike Draper selling T-shirts on the street in 2004, will bring its distinctive humor and regional flair to what will be its 12th location across the Midwest.

Raygun's arrival comes as part of a wave of entrepreneurial energy reinvigorating the South Loop area. Draper noted that while State Street lost major retailers following the pandemic, including Old Navy and Claire's, the current market presented an opportunity for independent businesses. "It's still expensive, it's not Lincoln, Nebraska, but it's cheaper than it was in 2019, for sure," he said, adding that he follows Warren Buffett's philosophy of getting aggressive when others are cautious.

The opening is part of a broader trend of new businesses establishing themselves in and around the South Loop, contributing to the neighborhood's continuing evolution. According to Chicago Loop Alliance, big things are on the horizon for the area, with numerous businesses set to open their doors by the end of 2025 and into early 2026. South Loop residents interested in Raygun's distinctive Midwest-themed apparel and gifts can follow the store's social media for updates on the March opening and potential launch events that will showcase the brand's unique personality and design aesthetic.
