New Goodwill Store Marks First Anniversary in Avondale, Creating Nearly 50 Local Jobs

Avondale's retail landscape continues to flourish as the Goodwill Store & Donation Center at 3558 N. Spaulding Ave. celebrates its first anniversary this month. The nearly 9,000-square-foot modern thrift shopping space, which features an enclosed heated drive-thru for year-round donations, has quickly become a neighborhood destination for sustainable shopping with its wide variety of secondhand, vintage, and unique clothing and household items stocked daily.
"Avondale is a vibrant and dynamic neighborhood with a rich history on Chicago's northwest side," said Dan Michael, vice president of retail stores and donation centers at Goodwill Greater Milwaukee & Chicago. The store has created nearly 50 jobs since opening and continues to support local programs and services that help people build skills, find employment, and connect to community resources like housing, food, and transportation. The store's success aligns with Avondale's recent recognition by TimeOut as the world's fifth coolest neighborhood in 2025, which praised the area for its balance of tradition with growth and noted "there's never been a better time to explore the neighbourhood."
Residents can support this community resource by shopping or donating Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those interested in sustainable shopping or contributing to local workforce development are encouraged to visit this vibrant addition to Avondale's thriving commercial district.
