Babe's Sports Bar Brings Women's Athletics to the Spotlight Near Palmer Square
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Palmer Square ·
Palmer Square residents have a new sports-viewing destination with the opening of Babe's Sports Bar in neighboring Logan Square, the first venue in Chicago dedicated exclusively to showing women's sports. Located at 3017 W. Armitage Ave., just a short walk from Palmer Square, the innovative concept bar opened its doors in late September with a grand opening celebration that included members of Chicago's Stars FC women's soccer team.
The highly-anticipated venue features eight televisions capable of showing four women's sports games simultaneously. After a successful crowdfunding campaign and complete interior renovation, Babe's has created a welcoming atmosphere for sports enthusiasts. The timing couldn't be better as the bar's opening coincided with the WNBA playoffs, and the establishment plans regular events including sports-related movie screenings and watch parties. Beyond basketball, Babe's will showcase games from Chicago's professional women's teams including the Sky, Stars FC, Chicago Tempest rugby team, Chicago Winds football team, and Windy City Rollers roller derby.
While the bar doesn't have its own kitchen, patrons are encouraged to bring food from nearby restaurants, with Babe's working especially closely with Yaba's Grill, a Palestinian Middle Eastern deli just two doors down on Armitage Avenue. Most nights, the deli brings over trays of hot lemon and pepper seasoned fries, which the bar distributes in small bags to guests around 9 p.m. Palmer Square residents looking for a new community gathering spot to support women athletes can visit Babe's Tuesday through Sunday, with exact hours available on the bar's website.
