Maxwell Street Market Launches Special Holiday Showcase in University Village Little Italy
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/University Village Little Italy ·
The historic Maxwell Street Market, a neighborhood staple for over 100 years, is bringing special holiday cheer to University Village Little Italy this season. The market, which recently announced its November programming, coincides with an exciting time for the neighborhood as residents explore new opportunities through Chicago's current zoning provisions, which remain in effect until April 1, 2026, allowing backyard houses on properties with up to four units.
As University Village Little Italy embraces the holiday spirit, residents can also look forward to the City's Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, November 21, followed by a festive Holiday Market from November 21-23. The neighborhood continues to showcase its vibrant mix of cultural offerings, with a broader array of cafes and restaurants where visitors can enjoy everything from traditional Italian fare to Thai, Portuguese, and French cuisine, alongside outstanding bakery items and Italian ice. Community members are encouraged to create festive picnics with fresh sandwiches and salads from Conte de Savoia, a neighborhood staple since 1948, and share their experiences on social media using #UVLIHoliday2025.
