West Pullman's $200 Million Commercial Corridor Project Advances with Community Input for 2026

West Pullman residents have reason to celebrate as plans for the neighborhood's ambitious $200 million commercial corridor development continue to advance, with phase one expected to begin in 2026. The Far South Community Development Corporation is spearheading this transformative project at 115th and Halsted streets, designed to create a more walkable neighborhood with expanded housing options and community amenities.

"We're working with the city and working with the alderman to try to make this happen," said Abraham Lacy, president of the Far South Community Development Corporation. The comprehensive plan includes a 12-acre, 258-unit mixed-use development that will feature a two-and-a-half-acre park, ground-floor restaurants, and retail facilities. This initiative comes at a critical time as residents seek more neighborhood resources and affordable housing options. "We haven't really invested a lot in affordable housing, and that's what's going to keep people here," Lacy emphasized.

Community members interested in learning more about the development can attend upcoming neighborhood meetings where representatives will share project details. The Far South CDC is also seeking input from residents on specific amenities they'd like to see incorporated into the development. This project builds on West Pullman's other community assets, including the nation's largest urban solar plant and ongoing efforts by organizations like Habitat for Humanity to expand housing options in the area.
