Humboldt Park Patriots Score Big Win: First-Ever Football Field Coming in 1.9 Million Park UpgradeBy Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Humboldt Park ·
The Humboldt Park Patriots, a youth football team that has played without a proper home field for over two decades, will finally get their own turf. The City Council recently approved
1.9 million in TIF funding for comprehensive improvements to the 219-acre Humboldt Park, including the neighborhood's first-ever dedicated football field near the historic boathouse."This is the first football field ever in Humboldt Park," said Alderperson Jessie Fuentes (26th). "Unfortunately, [the Humboldt Park Patriots] have had to paint their lines every single game, and they don't have seating for families. This is going to allow us to put up the recreational space the team deserves." The new field, estimated to cost $400,000, is already underway using district funds, with Patriots coaches hoping it will open in time for their 2026 summer season. The project is part of a larger improvement plan that includes restorations to the signature fieldhouse, improvements to the tennis courts, pool house upgrades, standalone bathroom renovations, and formal garden reconstruction. "By early spring, we can begin to see those improvements to the formal garden; it's one of the most beautiful assets of the park," Fuentes added. "We'll start to see the improvements to the tennis courts and other amenities that people love and get to utilize."
The park upgrades follow years of advocacy from neighbors, members of the Humboldt Park Advisory Council, and local officials. Community members interested in learning more about the improvements or getting involved with the Patriots youth football program are encouraged to connect with the team, which provides opportunities for approximately 100 neighborhood children ages 7 to 13.
