The People's Cafe Opens in Avondale, Creating New Community Art Space

The cafe, which officially opened on Wednesday, November 12, is taking over the former location of Cultura Ccafe, which is rebranding to Terra Coffee and relocating near the Belmont Blue Line stop.

The new establishment is owned by local resident Sommers, who saw an opportunity to serve the neighborhood in a fresh way. The People's Cafe has partnered with the Avondale Neighborhood Association's arts team to create a dedicated wall for local community art centered around themes of democracy, peace and justice. Artists interested in displaying their work are encouraged to apply online. Beyond beverages and baked goods, the space aims to cultivate conversation and community engagement, with events and workshops planned for evening hours after regular business operations.
