Galewood Tree Ambassador Program Exceeds 100 Plantings as Winter Planning Session Announced
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Galewood ·
Galewood's successful Tree Ambassador Program has reached a significant milestone with over 100 trees successfully planted throughout the neighborhood, transforming numerous parkways and enhancing the community's green canopy. As winter approaches, program organizers have announced a special planning session to prepare for an ambitious 2026 planting season.
The initiative, funded through a federal grant from the USDA, has connected with thousands of Galewood residents since its launch in 2023. "We've logged over 900 volunteer hours as part of this initiative," shared a representative from Galewood Neighbors, the community organization managing the program. While the grant officially concludes in June 2025, organizers confirm their commitment to long-term projects that will continue improving Galewood's environmental health.
Residents interested in participating in the winter planning session or requesting a free tree for spring planting can email [email protected]. Community members are also encouraged to explore the Rutherford Sayre Natural Area, where native plantings provide food and shelter for pollinators while helping manage stormwater in traditionally flood-prone areas of the park.
